This painting was inspired by a visit to Israel and taking a dance class. The teacher said something to help the students get into their bodies more easily: she suggested to the crowd, "Move like seaweed!" Immediately my mindset shifted. It wasn't about doing it "right" as much as to feel into one's own fluidity — to abandon self-consciousness, and move, but like seaweed, still feel rooted. This painting is a call to surrender to the fluctuations, the staccato, the gentle hum, the ripples of the moment, and engage in grounded movement. Let the body come alive.
This painting is also a reminder for me to let my dreams move through me in the same way seaweed moves. To follow the drifts of the moment and let them take me where they may, and in exchange, give myself the freedom to dream beyond the confines of daily life's busyness.
